Spookywood, Any reason why you are not re-using them. I note they are not welsh so know what the difficulty can be, but is it impossible to re-use? Cheers Mike up North
Originally we were quite keen to reuse the slates, however on chatting with various builders/slaters they all said it would be a false economy and that the cost of labour for sorting and resizing them and then putting back on the roof would far outweigh the cost of buying new slates. Also due to losing at least a 3rd of the slates when we take them off and about the 3rd of the roof having previously been repaired with welsh slate means we would then have to source similar scottish slate to make up the numbers which they reckon would prove difficult. We are planning to reuse the welsh ones for our detached garage. Our other sticking point is that we only own half the steading and the owners of the other half are adament that they want new slates on their half. Not sure if it would look ok or if the planning dept would take issue with both halves having a different look?
It's a shame because they are lovely and very thick, and would probably outlast us.
Hi Ag Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We have a whole spectrum of sizes! They range from abouts 70cm x 70cm (possibly bigger) to 15cm x 20cm (possibly smaller) We haven't measured them, as there is such a lot of them - but it is something I really should do! I guess they can be dressed to the required size.
If you are local it is no problem to come and have a look, we have about half of them off the roof now, palleted up.
