    I'm adding a 40 sq Metre extension to my house and wish to order pipe for underfloor central heating. Pipes are going in a screed slab and I'm thinking of using Hep20 pipe.

    Checked the hep site and seen that the pipe needs to be laid in a spiral formatt at 200mm centres. No sign of any table telling me how much pipe I need!!! Can anyone assist?

    40 m^2 / 0.2m (apart) = aprox 200m

    Sorry if you already know this but...

    I believe 100m is the max length recommended for a floor loop. So if you need to install 200m of pipe you may need to do it as two 100m loops connected to a two port manifold set.

    If that's the case and your extension has two rooms..You could then consider having two stats to give independant temperature control as you do with TVR rads.

    What would be the best (cheapest but OK) way for a DIYer to attach the pipe to a block and beam floor, that will be screeded over?

    Tony,Thanks for that, it would be helpful to know to pipe under mesh or over mesh? Minimum depth of screed to cover A142 mesh? And then presumably the areas not requiring pipe don't need mesh either - just screed?

    mesh on the floor -- pipes on top -- 65mm screed with fibre reinforcement is best. no pipes = no mesh yes

    One can purchase a "conservatory" pack with pump blending valve etc all incl
    Yes a max loop length, depends on pipe size though, bigger the pipe the longer the loop,
    which is why a package as above might make sense
    Might need a bigger ( than a standard domestic circ ) pump though, easy enough to spec offen the graph provided
    are you for using 15 or 20/22mm? dia
    needs to be a pipe incorporating an oxygen barrier, I "think" most now do , but check
    I used Wrisbro, they were one of only three firms doing in N I 13 years ago
    it was 20mm, at 300mm centres, hot water to the outside walls first then up & down
    they recommended using wire bag ties to secure to weldmesh, with the pipe running across the top of the mesh to allow the screed to penetrate and surround below
    I fitted it myself
