Hi Joe90 - I think you will find that there has been muchos discussion of this issue of feeding hot water into a cold only feed appliance - on many forums!! With no real solution apart from some of the more technical people getting very technical and Heath Robinson. However, my solar thermal installer has told me that hot and cold feed appliances are going to come back onto the market but when he did not say....I do think that he put in both a hot and cold feed to my cold only feed washing machine (which prompted my discussion with him). Does anyone know any further details?

Posted By: joe90 ... plan to feed it (along with washing machine) with solar/logburner heated water to cut the energy consumption.

Choose your machines with care. I believe some object if the incoming water is too hot - presumably they think it's a fault with the heating element?

See some of the posts on here..

One problem I have not solved yet is how to dump the cold water in the pipe leg so only hot water goes into the machine??????? All answers on a postcard!

Install a secondary loop? With the circulating pump on a switch or timer. I guess you could even put one on a PIR sensor so the loop pump starts running when you enter the utility room to load the machine.

One thing not mentioned yet - maybe its a female observation - but 10 mins of " finishing off" in the tumble dryer saves me over an hour of steam ironing.

Does that mean my dryer pays for itself?, environmentaly and financially?
  1.
I'd say dump the iron along with the tumble dryer and the dishwasher
mod cons , or just cons
line drying of most materials remove the need for ironing
In the eye of a scruffy builder that is.
