Hi, I'm new to this site, has anyone disscussed the use of untreated sheep fleeces as insulation, as i have been offered a small truck load and thought that they might work as insulation under the ramed earth floor i was planning in a barn convertion. Their use as wall or ceiling insulation may cause a bit of a smell problem ?

It has been discussed - try a search. Treating with borax to prevent moths seems to be wise, but I wouldn't put fleeces in a situation where they would get damp. Under an earth floor sounds like a recipe for compost, whereas within walls and roofs, where they stay dry, is more realistic. Under the floor you need a mineral insulator that can't rot. LECA or glass os some such.
