Anybody know more about this:

http://www.navetas.com/products/showcase/energy-monitor/

The technology looks interesting, identifying different energy uses from a single sensor. I guess that all it does is measure the the ons and offs of current as different appliances are used and tries to guess what they are. It won't be able to separate all the devices on standby for example, and probably won't know if it is a hairdryer or vacuum cleaner that is being used. Something like this:

9:00 1 amp
9:15 5 amps - hairdryer switched on
9:20 6 amps - light switched on
9:25 2 amps - hairdryer switched off
9:30 1 amp - light switched off

so, from that you can tell that you have three loads:
1 amp total standby for the house
4 amps for one appliance - hairdryer in this case, but it won't know that
1 amp for another appliance - light in this case.

It could probably guess what things are from the power they use and the length of time they are used for - eg. vacuuming takes longer than hairdrying - well it does in my case.

Very clever all the same.
Brian.
