Woodburner used on Monday 23rd as it got a bit chilly. So I guess that's 'heating on'. Flue works, and as well as being significanty noisier than before, it does also draw better (not that it drew badly before). Away Tue - Sat so can't say till after that to what degree this is one-off or normal state of affairs.

It's what Scottish Hydro call a "Total Heating Total Control" system. See earlier post (just a few days ago) for more detail, should you be interested...

Google Earth, keep zooming in till it goes no further and then look at the bottom middle of the screen. I use Decimal Degrees and Metre/Kilometres (they can be changed in Tools-->Options-->3D View).

I finally succumbed last night - core temp of the house was down to 15C, and at this time of year even mild sunny weather won't push that back up. So the UFH is on.

Over the last 2 weeks we managed with the use of the wood stove in the evenings, but yesterday we gave in and switched our gas central heating on. Then again we had a lovely sunny and warm day today.

Changed in above table, but not the charts.

As we have a weak correlation with latitude (this is to be expected) I am happy that the further North (or South but not much land in the Southern Hemisphere) people live the earlier they put the heating on.
Altitude is a bit different, I would have thought that the higher up people are the sooner they would be heating, but seems the opposite (though sample is really too small). Could this been down to better insulation, the outliers (Gotanewlife) or more solar because of clearer skies. Thoughts anyone?

Is the UK (or at least the bits covered by our sample[1]) simply too flat for it to make a difference significant enough to stand out above the many other variables?

[1] Unless I've missed something, none of the altitudes seem particularly high. When we lived in the Derbyshire Peak District we were just about on the 1200' (365m) contour. It was quite noticeable that in wintery weather the snow line was often only just a few metres further up the hill...

We have gas condensing combi with rads, but only the wood burner (5kw stove) has been used so far. Looks like we might make it into November without the gas being used! (Wood is 'free' from woodland behind the house)
