Hi all.
I am just in the process of talking to one of the big insulation companies about my EWI. I am getting priced up for 200mm EPS and looking at the difference in U-values. It seems that the computer says 200mm on 500mm stone/rubble walls with fixings gets me 0.17 for ordinary and 0.14 for platinum. The platinum will be significantly more expensive. I think the wall u-value underestimates the performance of the rubble walls but won't be able to work out by how much. What should I be aiming for (I know 0.0 would be good!). I think 200mm is as thick as is practical.
Also there is a density issue. Some of you will have seen my 'floating eaves' detail where the eaves are supported by the counterbatens. I was thinking of using higher density EPS in this area (100 rather than standard 70). Do you guys have any views?

Thanks
Paddy

P.S. website with eave detail is here: http://web.me.com/pmagowan/Site

 Thanks Viking.
I am expecting a call anytime now with the figures so nice to have these to compare. Sounds like not a massive difference in your prices and would get me down to U= 0.14. Is this an aceptable U-value? It would be nice to not require the radiators (i have four large ones in my living room!). As discussed in previous threads I will be making air tight, reducing thermal bridges to rediculous levels, putting in wing insulation at foundations a nd adjusting my windows in a DIY bodge.

Paddy

If these are the prices from the manuafacturer they may be the RRP and you might be able to get some flexibilty from the builders merchant you end up buying through given the size of your job.

A few years ago I ordered lots of block paving from jewsons and almost jokingly asked if they could beat their trade discount for the larger volume - the girl on the counter showed me to the managers office and they knocked a further 50% off!

My prices are through at £94.50m3 for EPS70 plat and £62.5m3 EPS70 white. For EPS100 plat it is £117.70 m3. The white seems similar to Vikings but the others are more expensive. I am still looking at the other materials. The fixings for the roof are a bit tricky as I cant think how you would make sure and hit the rafter with such a long screw but am working on it. Need to be on preparation in next few weeks
