    Thanks both.

Sprocket- Did the Philips LED's hurt the wallet as much? Any problems at all with the LP's LED's. They are a great replacement for halogen. I need approx 70 so I may just need to buy cheaper units and replace them later. Not very green I grant you but I will not fit halogen as my cables will melt! I would love to find a good cheaper unit though so I could buy once only for the house,
    Gusty.

Hi Gusty. Yes, the Phillips were just over 30 GBP each when we bought them.
I see they are currently 28.75 on amazon.co.uk so still v.expensive.
They all claim to be dimmable and for 1 LED it works fine but if you have several of them on a normal (leading edge) dimmer they stop dimming and flicker a lot.
We have 22 of these in our kitchen which was all halogen before.

Thanks Sprocket, I can see I am just going to need to plead poverty and hope I get a good deal. I will try LP's first I think. Pleading poverty should be easy though as we are about 2 thirds through our build now! Thanks,
    Gusty.

So you previously had 1100W of 'lighting' in your kitchen! Wow. No need for radiators in there then.

And I feel guilty when we have our 84 W of main lighting on! For many purposes we use 18 W.

Erm, well, I suppose I have to admit to that.
They were in three rings though so didn't always have all of them on. Just some of the time.
It's a low ceiling (very old farmhouse) and very difficult to light. It probably did make upstairs toasty.
Rest of our heating is/was oil too. And a fair bit leaks out - not easy to insulate.
Maybe all that's a bit of why we're so determined to try to make up for it now.

Hmmm. Facing same issue gusty as just starting to put up a 3400 sq ft house and trying to work out how to meet regs and keep energy costs way down. Will be interesting to see what light suppliers come up with.
