    In summary:

    Man switches from mains gas to electric ASHP based on brochure claim that it could save him upto 75%. In fact it ends up costing him more to run. So he switches the ASHP off and reverts to his gas boiler. Supplier since taken over by Danfoss who eventually send him a cheque. Includes comments from the Energy Saving Trust as to the suitability or otherwise of ASHP if you currently have mains gas.

    Yes, I think you have to be especially careful if already on mains gas. It'll probably work for me because my current boiler is band-D and I shall be very very conscious of CoP and may make supplier explicitly guarantee it in writing.

    Not surprised , much more of this to come in the future with all sudo green tech.
    Saw a job a few years ago where they'd fitted a GSHP with a borehole (mega bucks )in a victorian semi in an urban area to replace gas boiler , because it was 'greener' .
    No talk of insulation improvements as they didnt need them due to thier new green tech solution .
    Crazy people.

    Nice to see someone in the industry admitting that in most cases HPs shouldn't be used instead of mains gas.

    Still find it amazing that people are prepared to hand over so much money and rely on the claim of a sales rep, if he honestly thought he could save 75% why didn't his neigbours have one.
