On the Arbtalk forum someone's just sold 50 tons in Durham for Â£23 plus VAT per ton.

Yes and you can bet the woodchip plants are only paying a fraction of that. I'm waiting for a couple of quotes for a 26 ton load delivered.

40 would be a starting price, no? room for haggling? I was recently asked to pay 60 pound per ton by an evil softwood merchant! Haulage adds about 25 or 30 percent to an artic load.. unless it's imported!!

Just got the first quote, Â£930 all inclusive, for a 19 ton load deliverd roadside, and forest tractor shifed into my field at the rear of the property. Â£49 per ton is a tad too much I feel. I'll be interested in the next quote from a contractor who delivers in 25 ton loads.

I pay Â£10 tonne ex stump which equates to Â£20 tonne roadside by the time I have extracted.What part of the country are you if Lancashire I could assist.

Your in the right area to be affected by Drax sucking in any type of cheap biomass to fuel their inefficient generating plant.
As mentioned earlier it might be worth posting on arbtalk although I do know a lot of people are struggling for timber supplies this year but mainly hardwoods, softwood is not normally a problem.

Thanks John, Re soft/hardwoods, I prefer softwood for my log gas boiler it splits easier, dries quicker, and is less of a strain on my back, not to mention the pocket and availability.
