Buckyp - your website is anything but simple! It's very high-tech - that's the problem. It's the stuff that the 'free site' you used has put in that's problematic. If you told us who that was (I'm guessing this 'moonfruit' outfit?) then we could go and bend their ears instead of yours (which would also fix this issue for everyone else who uses their services). But I'm quite sure there are plenty of other free website builder services you could spend two hours on that _wouldn't_ be so newfangled that they are unuseable for some of us.

Am I making sense yet?

I am having difficulty with your simultaneously claiming to 'be computer literate', but also completely failing to understand this issue and trying to blame us the users, and insisting that your very fancy site is 'basic' simply because you used third party tech you know nothing about. However having bitten my tongue over the 'get lost and come back in a year when your computer works better' comment, I will try and help sort this out for you, although web-tech is not my area of expertise at all. But you will need to provide some info on how you built this site. Where did you go, what options did you choose, which parts of the site are text/images/video provided by you? Feel free to send that info to wookey@wookware.org rather than this thread as we've cluttered it up enough.

You absolutely don't need any budget to fix this. You need a willingness to solve the problem, and probably some time. Others will help you, if you show willing.

Buckyp - just looked at your website. Everything worked fine for me and I'm a complete Luddite.
To solve the problem for others, perhaps there should be some sought of licensing regime of website builders. I'm sure the Gov. will be happy to oblige.

Just a quick update on this, as of 18th May 2012 we now have the long awaited abstraction license with a green light to move forward and develop the project so hopefully we will be installing the system next year!
At the risk of firing up the web site debacle again, you can keep up to date with the project by looking at www.abingdonhydro.co.uk

Paul.

Excellent news! And I for one can now see a good-looking, useful site.

(it says "You are viewing the text version of this site" but it has pictures. There's apparently a whole generation of wet-behind-the-ears web designers who don't know what a text-only site is )

The only bit that doesn't work is that it doesn't show me any contact details.
