    I want to attach an image to ask the great and good their view on something but the GBF 'start a new discussion' page doesn't seem to like it. It's only a 1.8mb JPEG - any thoughts/ideas?

    If you reduce the image size down, using something like the picture manager in Office, or one of the free graphics programs it will upload OK. I usually go for a maximum picture width of 800 pixels, more than good enough for the forum display area and this usually gives .jpg files less than around 250 kb

    Irfanview has an option to resize with just a couple of clicks, and they do a portable version that does nto scatter files all over the hard drive. does 99% of what I ever need including opening files from my Pentax

    You don't have to worry with something like 'tinypic'...

    Just try and ignore the irritating jiggling adverts, and whatever you do don't believe that you're the 1,000,000th visitor today. Otherwise it's great.

    1.8 is pretty big for a forum pic. I use PhotoShop to resize just because that's what I use for work.

    Screen DPI is generally 96 (MACs are less I think so they can put a ruler on it, 72 point font is an inch high)

    So if one was to make a picture 576 pixels wide, it should be three inches wide on the screen.

    Lets give it a go with one 576 by 288 pixels and see what happens.

    But forgot I have zoomed in because of my wonky eyesight, not sure if there is a default screen size for a webpage.

    576/96 = 6. Actually 6.25" on my laptop, as it happens but DPI uses “logical inches”:

    That image came out spot-on 6 inches by 3 inches here.
