Wondered if anybody had read the 23.11.2007 supplement of Building (3 million green homes by 2020) yet? Do you mean the £1,750 figure?

It does sound a bit light. I would have thought that this would be achieved in out of town areas though. I liked Bedzed but felt that the interior atmosphere was not all it was cracked up to be: Particularly the balcony area in the show-house. I am not sure how many people would prefer that type of environment (though they may not have a choice in the future). It's the same feeling you get at Hockerton and Earthship (and any castle on at the end of a humid day).

It was really the seemingly arbitary figures applied to the technologies and their out puts, some must have been for the whole building, whilst others not sure what they meant. It would have been far more useful if these had been per plot to achieve level 6.
Not sure how level 6 would be achieved with the PV's and wind turbines quoted.
Although the article didn't give the full story reading between the lines it achieved level 3 through building fabric and solar thermal, although the structure on the side elevation seems to indicate that biomass community heating has been installed, the mention of 300mm wall ties indicates that passive haus standards may have been used, at that standard the windows and doors wouldn't have been cheap.
Hopefully in time an open book report will be produced on the scheme showing the rest of a bemused industry just how to achieve level 6 to a sensible budget, it would be nicer if the level 6 costs were actual rather than hyperthetical.
I wonder what time of day the photo was taken, hope the green roof wasn't on the North elevation!

It is difficult to see how level 6 can be achieved at the construction volumes promised by Brown given that the public probably want to have usable on-demand appliances and will be able to do this by buying an older home or by extending an existing one. Perhaps the government will pragmatically interpret (sic) the regulations as we approach 2016?
