Velux have a recessed flashing now which improves the u-value down to a quoted 0.82 with triple glazing. I'm looking at a drawing of the flashing assembly and cannot see how the Nu-Lok system will work with it. A long shot I know, but anyone used this combination?
  1.
I'll try to get a look at the velux recessed flashing as I'm in the middle of using Nu-lok, so might have my head in the right place as it were.
The velux I've moved is not recessed but I did at least get an insulated frame for it.
The other potentially useful thing is that I'm putting in a fixed 3G light which is a DG unit at the internal face and a single glass pane slightly oversailing the slates ...
I'm making up my own flashing for this using Lacomet FL (Aluminium/Fibreglass/Aluminium) and it doesn't have much of an upstand.

You might have to do a "secret gutter" but I'm jumping the gun

Done a load more digging on this and discovered that I need the recessed EDJ flashing for Nu-Lok but the recessed flashings are only available for single windows (and mine are doubles side by side). So I will have to use a standard flashing sigh! Splitting the windows up is not an option before someone says... I'm not sure if I can use the BDX insulated collar - I will have to ask! They (Customer Support) are good (and working today) but don't always answer the question asked....

I fitted a Fakro 3g roof window with an insulated flashing in a Nu-Lok roof. If you don't have the Velux yet it might be worth looking at Fakro to see if they have the flashing you want.
  3.
How close together are the two windows?
Attached pic a bit basic as a rush job.
It's not in proportion, there are bits missing and it's "exploded" but hopefully shows what I mean ...
Could you form a gutter (pink) between the two sets of flashing maybe?
The "tails" on the soakers (yellow) could be cut back?
  4.
(pic lost as too slow to be kept signed in) .......

Hi, The sizes don't work for me in terms of glazed area and the insulated ones are not for use as a fire escape (although we had a long discussion on that a while back!!).

Hi Mike, thanks, but I prefer to use the standard flashings. I have had another look at the options, and it seems if I can fit in a 500mm gap then I can use 2 separate flashings. More investigation required!

As far as Nu-Lok goes, it's basically: Channel with clip first, soaker next and slate last.

The soaker should have a 20mm fold at the top that goes between the top of the channel and the upstand part of the rail. (see attached pic from manual which is of a valley soaker detail)
The standard Velux thing with soakers seems to be a nailing of the soaker into the window frame and a capping piece/s put over the whole lot.

That's the only bit of the flashing kit that I can imagine might not lend itself to "the Nu-lok way" ...
If you think you could do with some "literature" etc email me at mike dot rumney at virgin dot net
