Plan to use flow limiters as part of our water saving plan. On the taps I thought 3.5 litres a minute is a good choice, but what is the an acceptable flow for a shower. Looking at Bristan they offer from 4 to 14 litres. Don't want to go OTT and end up with a shower with a dribble.

Try 8 lt/min, my shower is 11, more than good enough.
You could try experimentation with a bucket and a stop watch.

Thanks. Just discovered they are only a couple of quid each so for the water calculator form and first off I'll go with 8, then can upscale if necessary without breaking the budget

2 quid is about 330 lt of water down here, at 11 lt/min and assuming a shower takes 5 minutes, that will take about 17 showers to find out.

What is wrong with the infinitely variable flow restrictors fitted on the tails of most modern sink and basin installations (the 'penny valve')? I went through an office block with the manager some years ago simply 'tweaking the valves', on the basis that if users *must* wash hands without the plug in (or brush teeth, or whatever) then let them do so under slower-running water, wasting less. They have saved many tens of thousands of litres over te years since, based on estimated occupation and usage.

    Average is 8 minutes, apparently.

I've got a 7.7l restrictor in my shower and it's fine. Both me and the missus hate weak showers, but she's not even commented on it so I don't think she noticed when I fitted it.

Google suggests around 4L/min is the minimium acceptable but I'd love to know how they worked that out as it seems too low for me..

    .. try http://www.alchallis.com/

They have a large range of restrictors that comply with C4SH, if you need to?

    Cheers

    Thanks guys for the comments.

Daryl, particularly like the Challis shower heads. Their video makes a compelling argument about getting wet and fitting their products

What do people think of their system?

When I lived in the USA, I had a shower that could be aerated, pulsed, fine spray, medium spray or a full force that almost pinned you against the wall (almost as good as the shower on the ferry to Jersey, the best I have ever used, still convinced it came directly of the prop). 3 of us in the house, was always on full force. None of us felt satisfied with the aerator at all. It never felt right either. Had to be set hotter as well.
So stick one in and not give anyone the choice

3 x showers + two sons(with no concept of energy saving - wait till they pay the bills!) = 2 x Aerated shower heads:wink:
