Now that we have all but one of the main quotes we have decided to get started on the build and are about to place orders for the frame, roof, windows and ventilation system. Dead exciting!

As part of the enabling works - well, I was an architect! - we have demolished an old, tumble down cow shed and are excavating for the foundations for a new shed (or we are going to call it the site hut and then garage!). As our little hamlet was occupied by the Germans in the war and was severely damaged by the Americans as they made the break-out from this area of Normandy, we were wondering what we might find. As the digging progressed it was obvious that an old stone structure had been demolished and the stone just left in the ground - we have uncovered at least 10 tons and are only a third through. So, was the original building being used by the Germans? Might we find an Iron Cross?

Well, imagine our excitement when a strange metal structure started to be uncovered - could that be old green camouflage paint - might it be part of a WW2 vehicle?? Perhaps something dastardly occurred? Eventually the ground released it's secrets and it was just an old road sign that appeared to have been buried by a local farmer after he had flattened it. Hardly worth going to the local gendarme and reporting it eh?!!!

Now when we start excavating for the house in the area of the field that is strangely raised - well, that could be really interesting - we hope! Hey ho!

When we get placing orders I'll do a breakdown and post some plans.

    Regards, Jonathan
