If you refer to the attached detail you can see that we have a step down in our B & Bfloor and the architects insulation solution is 100mm of Celotex. This is really too thick as it will create a step in the wall of the lower room.

Is there a better performing insulation i.e provide the same thermal performance as the Celotex but thinner, or should I be considering EWI in the void below the B & B floor?

Pugliese, when I open the file I get:

    ÐÏ à¡± á > þÿ ] _ þÿÿÿ \ ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ
The forrmat looks OK, but it won't play.

Always consider EWI as it helps to eliminate thermal bridges

You could try aerogel insulation instead but it is more expensive

That is the best argument I have heard for EWI

Thanks Tony, I had heard of it but no experience. Just had a look at the Prcotor website and see that they do aerogel combined with Fermacel known as Spacetherm FP. Will do some more research on this but interested to know if anyone has used it?

    Hi,

I used 9mm of felted SpaceTherm from Proctor above a suspended wood floor because
    - I couldn't lift the boards or face getting underneath to insulate (this last may have been a mistake)
    - I didn't want to floor level to rise by more than 22mm.

It's in, it seems to work (but I don't have before and after measurements to quantify any change :-()

I can answer questions but most of what I know is in the page at http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=9&page=4 and
    http://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-going-green-in-Newcastle.html !
