Just fitting the lighting to my new build.

Fir various reasons I'm using 240v tracks with gu10spot units un various places.

The reason for 240v gu10 is that low energy (CFL or led) bulbs are readily available.

My dilemma is this, is it 'greener' to use the 50w incandescent lamps until they die, then replace with low energy or junk the lamps straight off and start with low energy ones.

    Junk 'em now!

I often have a similiar dilemma , and currently have a box full of 50W GU10s in the shed
I recon it's better to go straight for the low energy bulb , though I've not done any EROEI analysis to quantify this.
    my logic would be .
You have to supply 75% energy efficient lamps to comply with B regs.
Reduction in energy usage is required today , not at some point in the future
The client is more likely to replace existing lamp with similar when required inthe future , so they'd go out and find a GU10 LED when the time came if one was there already.
The probelm for me is, what do I do with my box of 50W GU10s ?

No answer but do we all have a guilty box of 50W GU10's? Ours came with the light fittings. What to do?? Maybe a massive sculpture ?
  2.
    ....connected to the mains?

Old incandescents (GLS or halogen) can always be put in places where they won't get much use - cupboards, attics, sheds, etc. It'd be a slow ROI (money/energy/emissions) to use CFLs or LEDs in those locations.

Wait until they're no longer available in shops then make a small killing flogging them on Ebay.
