I'm trying to find a wall-mounted HRV unit which will be long enough to go through the 440mm thick wall in my kitchen. The kitchen is quite big: 5m x 3m. Please can anyone help?

I have been looking for something similar myself. You may find the following of interest:

    Search for Energex.

From the website http://www.vent-axia.com/range/hr200wk.html "The HR200WK fits through walls up to 335mm thick"

I need something similar for 400mm thick.

I have one of their product selectors at home...
Worth making contact to check which is correct?

Ah, on further investigation on that web page, the dropdown box has an extension sleeve for up to 550mm.

And another one http://www.kiltox.co.uk/products/hrv.htm (again has an extension kit).
    http://vectaire.co.uk/products/heatrecheatrecovery and http://www.xpelair.co.uk/xrh150-lovolt-single-room-heat-recovery-ventilator-units.html

They all look remarkably similar so I suspect they are a rebadged item though who the original manufacturer is I am not sure.
  1.
I'm also thinking about installing one of these, how easy is it to core a 100mm hole through a 450mm wall?

My dear chap that depends on what the wall is made of!! Where I live it can often be re-enforced concrete (impossible!) or tufa stone (I use my 18Volt battery drill (no really!)), if it is natural stone and a bit old then you have the problem of infill; if it is loose infill and a piece drops down behind the bit once the bit has passed you're xxxxed, just pray your roto stop drill chisel bit can reach and can batter it to pieces....and of course you'll need a couple of extensions.

As to the question, I've just been answering that myself and had come up with the same answers.
