The time out function on this board is set so badly it's making the boards virtually unuseable for anything other than single sentence replies.

Essentially it times out while you're writing a message, and won't then let you post the message without copying the message you've written, then opening the thread again and pasting it into a new comments box.

For new threads it's even worse as it loses the entire message, so if you've not actually remembered to copy it before submitting the message then you end up losing the entire post for good.

This has been pointed out before, it should be a very simple thing to fix - just find the time out section on the back end of the website and change it to 24 hours or something instead of it's current 5minute ish setting, so please could this get sorted out.

    thanks

Ditto, - it bugs me too. I, and others have raised this subject before.

Not had that problem, I sometimes spend over an hour replying (hard to believe with my rubbish answers I know).
It does happen sometimes, but that seems to be more a problem with my ISP/connection/PC.

When it happens to me just pressing “Add your comments” again seems to work fine. No copying and pasting or anything needed. Not had it for starting a new thread.

I think it might have something to do with whether you've got the box ticked to log in automatically or not, as I think it logs you out, but then might log you back in again automatically when you go to post if you've got that box ticked.

for some reason with me, the auto log in function doesn't seem to stay ticked for long, so sometimes it's all fine, other times I go to post and it won't let me, sometimes I can still see the post, other times it's just not there, and not on the back button either.

It's all a bit odd, but really frustrating particularly when I've spent an hour or so writing a detailed post and forgotten to copy it before submitting it.

Hit the back button and resubmit.

Install the 'lazarus' plugin (for firefox/iceweasel). This saves everythin you type into all boxes. Everyso handy whenever you have an issue like this with _any_ site. I love it :-)

Having said that I don't have a timeout problem with this site. If I'm not logged in when I try to post then just trying again (and sometimes a third time) fixes it. The text is not lost. And sometimes I leave posts for hours before finishing them. What browser are you using Gavin?
  1.
I have the same problem and have lost some long replies before now. One tries to remember to save them but of course sometimes a reply that was to be short grows as the ideas flow. I use Chrome and right click 'copy' before hitting submit then, if it does go wrong, don't touch a thing, open a Word doc, right click and 'paste' before trying to play with the browser again or you can also lose your copied stuff. V irritating and surely avoidable without the users having to invent and then remember work arounds. Please fix. Ta

That's an idiotic fanboy response. This is about browsers, not hardware or OS.

Perhaps you meant 'it works OK for me with Safari'?
