    Hi there,
The object you see in the picture is nothing unusual, it is a flue from a wood burning stove.

This isn't the only section that is now in need of replacing.

I will when time allows take more pics and share those.

Different sections are experiencing corrosion faster than others. Most sections still look OK on the outside but are corroded along the whole of the length inside which carries water. It is easy to shove a screw driver through it.

We live 15 miles from the coast and don't experience any kind of sea spray. I don't think there is anything unusual about our circumstances or location.

Essentially the learning point for us is that the Lindab Rainline, galvanised only product has no 15 yr guarantee, it only has a 12 month warranty.

This has been a surprise, naturally we feel misled. We didn't spot the use of the word coated, in the context of a galvanised coating, doesn't mean coated in the context of the 15yr warranty.

At the time, we chose the product largely because it visually suited our barn conversion. Whilst we were a bit sceptical about the ability of the molecular magic to hold off nature!, I guess we hoped for 15 -20 yrs given the warranty ( which we believed was applicable to the product we bought, at the time of purchase).

It is in many ways a good product, but be aware, the product coated with 275g zinc per m2 only, has a 12 mnth warranty only, because it is not one of their "coated" systems. Something we will pursue with their complaint process to start with.

In our experience it needs replacing after 8-9 yrs.
    kind regards

I'm sure there's some exceptional circumstance at work here, it's so extreme. What else could it be?

I don't know what else it could be but I do know I am getting out there to examine the stuff I have put up over the years. Please keep us informed abuot Lindab's attitude as I for a second also thought coating meant coating! Class action a possibility unless you gain some satisfaction?

    Hi there ,

I have been corresponding with the Business Unit Manager of the Profile business from where the products were supplied. He has stated he is head of the UK arm of Lindab any and all customer complaints are passed by him for personal review.

I have written asking for their full complaint process, twice, but it has not been forthcoming.

I also asked what he felt was a reasonable expectation for the product to last given “To provide long time rust proofing the steel is coated with 275g zinc per m2. The galvanised coating is naturally self-healing, any scratch or cut being automatically sealed by zinc ions which migrate to re-coat the uncovered steel.”

he has not provided any answer to that question either.

I have recieved the following statements.

"To make it absolutely clear our “coated products” make reference to galvanised steel that has had a high build polyester paint applied to them. Non coated products are referred to as our plain galvanised, Aluzinc and pure copper products."

"Our product warranty of 15 years applies to the coating only. If the coating fades, cracks, blisters or fades in this period Lindab will replace it." "We do not offer a warrant on the integrity of the products themselves. The products can be exposed to all sorts of atmospheric conditions that could have a corrosive effect on the product. Lindab has no control on how or where the products are installed. Poor installation can also have a direct effect on the longevity of the products."

The Business Unit Manager considers the matter closed.

    I bet you don't!

He really needs pushing as to what a 'long time' is! We used Lindab fall-pipes on the Energy Centre 6 years ago. Perhaps I ought to go back andd have a look. Is he aware of this thread?

I also suggest the BUM (Business Unit Manager) looks at this thread. I for one have just cancelled my order for the galvanised. Am considering the coated but think I will switch to a supplier who looks after their customers

This was also my preferred system but not now. Particularly due to the company's response to your concerns as much as the original issue, extremely worrying as that is.
You can add my name to the list of defectors.

Was about to order Lindab guttering for our new build, not so keen on the product now!
Fitted it in the past, once you get the hang of it, I was impressed with how solid it is compaired with nasty plastic
Wanted to fit a product with a long lifespan, if I have to go for the coated version its getting a bit expensive. Prefer the look of the galv as well. Dont know what to do now:sad:

Maybe we need to start a new thread - 'What is the best alternative to Lindab?'

Try these, in stainless. Lindlab aren't the only player in town.

Perhaps more to the point, is his head office aware of the thread?
