    Not sure if this is of any interest to anyone, or of practical use, but I have sourced, at source, the Orcon F glue for used for Pro clima membranes at £ 2.25 per cartridge. The only downside, minimum order one pallet, comprising of 1344 cartridges shipped from Holland ! Anyone require 1320 cartridges or taking a trip to Holland in the near future !

    I've seen it retail for £6.50 per cartridge.

    ...If I only knew how much of it I could/should use!

    ikimiki, I think I can safely say not 1320 !

    If interested it's Den Braven Folieflex Spur, just not available in the UK, unlike some of their other products

    Cav8, do you know if, in Holland, it is much cheaper anyway, even smaller amounts at retail price? If so, it's probably far more likely that some of us will be going to Holland than that any one, or small group, of us will need 1320 cartridges! Or, once the pallet is broken up, is the price in Holland near the UK retail price?

    Hi Nick, sorry, no, haven't taken it that far yet, I guess it will depend on what scale we use the membrane although I am interested in the apparent disparity in availability/cost of these products in the UK. Certain Dan Braven products are available in the UK, I have been using their Polyurethane glue for construction joints (back up to mechanical fixings) and internal board edge sealing and in the process have used approx. 200 cartridges. The price of the Den Braven poly has been far cheaper than any comparable product, which with the number used has been a worthwhile saving. The UK brand for Dan Braven we know as Siroflex but again the full range DB is not stocked, presumably just the high use items. I think it is another case of, in the UK, any product relating to the "specialist" market of energy efficient building being confined to an expensive niche market.
    The price I was quoted was not, I believe, based on any economy of scale (one pallet) as this was just the minimum order that would be considered for importation to the UK. Therefore I imagine the price in Holland would be comparable to the price I was quoted (per individual cartridges). I had friends on holiday in Holland during the summer but I wasn't quick enough on the uptake, plus I'm not sure they would want to drag the family around Dutch builders merchants, I wouldn't mind though, suspect it would be quite enlightening. Do we have any forum members in Holland ? I think if any one persons requirements were great enough or a group purchase could be arranged a Dutch visit could well be worthwhile, would make for an interesting variation on a booze cruise !
    I have a tube of the Den Braven Foliefix Spur sitting here and it is, I am sure, the same product re branded for ProClima, basically liquid green chewing gum ! It's range of applications, as described on the tube, is correct.

    There is a company in Ireland that sells if for 8.6 Euro.

    3 times mark up is not that high, and there are only a few things in Europe that are cheaper. They tend to be the ones we notice, fags and booze, land, housing, etc.

    In Germany its available at http://www.bausep.de at 5.88euros (including 19% sales tax). In the UK its £6.50 ex VAT. with the exchange rate of 1.2euros to the pound its about 59% more expensive in the UK.

    Luckily my sister lives in Germany so I got her to order all the tapes and adhesives i required and picked them up last time I visited her

    ST, not sure I understand your comments re. mark up. As far as I am aware I am not being offered a "trade'' price for bulk purchase, the requirement to buy a pallet is for the privilege of being able to purchase it in the first place. As I understand it, I appear to being offered close to the European (or specifically Dutch) retail price for a, presumably, readily available product in Europe that is not made available in the UK. Rather we are left to purchase a re branded product for a "niche" market which then attracts the 3 times markup, which in my book, is high and further discourages movement to better building practices. It also appears to tell the lie to higher costs due to small/specialist production runs as clearly this is a mainstream product by a large manufacturer. It just took a bit of digging to discover the common genes.

    adi, just seen your comment, thanks, but is that the pro clima or dan braven version.
    Just checked the site, which is a bit of a revelation, and yes that is a price for pro clima. I am looking at the original manufacturers product, with still further discount) at retail). Perhaps your sister could do a bulk order for the Den Braven Foliefix Spur !

    That seems to be a German online specialist 'dichstoffe' supplier, where it is 7.14€ , so not a huge saving over UK price of OrconF, and significantly more than Bausep.de.     Are you sure you aren't being quoted the manufacturer's trade price, as opposed to the RRP?

    I must admit I find Orcon F such good stuff that £7.70 doesn't seem an unreasonable price, but obviously if one could get it it for significantly less then that would be good.

    Bausep's online form unfortunately doesn't allow delivery to anywhere other than Germany. SchraubenKing in Austria are happy to send to the the UK. (12.9€), which is slightly less than Ecomerchant charge to send some from Bristol(!).

    The internet makes this stuff an awful lot easier than it used to be :-)

    Of course you might decide that getting your glue tubes shipped from Austria to save a few quid is a bit silly, but it's what the EU is set up to make easy. We should really be hassling toolstation or screwfix to import the stuff for us in sensible volumes (1344 tubes at a time :-) (and airtightness tapes).

    Wookey, have not checked the link but the product name is correct. I intend to go back and ask if the price quoted is trade or retail as this was not discussed, just the actual availability to UK. The price would be for a delivered pallet.
    I agree the product is superb and seems to be unique in its properties and if necessary I will pay the UK price for the twenty or so tubes required.
    As you say the answer would be not to resort to tortuous routes of import but for some of the major building suppliers to take sustainable building practices seriously. I have not used Ecomerchant (also Bristol, my local) for a while so not to sure what they are now like, do they actually carry stock, when I last used them they did not and all items had to be shipped down.

    Isn't that one of those questions it's best not ask? You send them the money, they send you the pallet. Who cares if it's “trade” or “retail”?

    Ed, you are right and that is a problem, but I reality I am only ever likely to need 20+ tubes so this is probably not a viable proposition anyway. Therefore I probably could make enquiries without it being detrimental to the outcome.

    ...gonna need about half a roll of Tescon No. 1 Tape... would prefer not to pay £40 inc VAT and delivery... :sad:
