I thought this would be interesting for any one who hasnt seen it yet. Its a a video of a talk given at the TED conference in San Francisco by Janine Benyus. In it she provides examples of 12 sustainable design ideas from nature. Including research that is working to mimic photosynthisis, one of the most exciting applications of technology that we can make I feel. she gets into the interesting ideas about 10 mins into the presentation.
