The topic of the next edition of GBmag will be building services and renewables. We have an in-depth look at fuel cells planned among other things.

Also I want to organise a debate on heat pumps. I'm looking for two representatives (one from the for camp and one from the against camp) to tough it out in print. Anyone interested? OR suggestions of someone who I can contact that would be happy to get in the ring would be welcome please.

It would be interesting to have a piece from an architect as to why they see building services as the lowest thing in the food chain as opposed to what should be driving design. Sorry, bit of a bug bear that us BS engineers are expected to make a building low energy when it is covered in glass or even fit plant into a cupboard, when a whole room is needed!

Good points Liz. Would you like to be guest editor for the section?

Much of the early green building movement in the UK was powered by the pent-up energy contained in BS engineers: Characters like Peter Warm, John Willoughby and David Olivier surrounded, advised and guided me during the early days of the magazine and the AECB. So, I for one, am a fan of your ilk.

I always thought that "Peter Warm" must be a made-up name! It's too much of coincidence that someone involved in green heating systems and insulation would have a name like "Warm"

    Paul in Montreal

p.s. in Hull (where I'm originally from) there was an R Boddy Funeral Directors and in Manchester Philip Shovlin rents JCB diggers and other, well, shoveling equipment

If I remember correctly, Peter changed his name to 'Warm' by deedpoll. Now that's what I call committed marketing !
