Okay, I know its a bit late, but how about some Christmas list suggestions/recomendations

A book I found inspirational: No Nettles Required by Ken Thompson

I've asked Santa for one of those little electric meters that monitor what you are using and convert it into carbon and money etc and show it on a digital display. If you can measue, you can manage it.

Have also asked for a couple of those plug in standby sockets that you can remotely switch off at night or when you go cutting all power to connected appliances.

    Keeping my fingers crossed...

Would recommend two sets of full length thermals. Wear them indoors through the winter and I recon you can stand the house being a couple of degrees colder. That should save 20% off the heating shouldn't it?

Chris, I have been using one of these electricity reading gadgets for 18months, the initial interest died down after 3-4 months and it was back to the sad old bad old ways even for an eco warrior like me, I got sick of running around the house turning off lights, tvs, etc and I thought the younger generation were into saving the planet..........
But what I did learn from the meter, in a real moment of sadness, was that boiling just enough in a kettle for a cupper rather than the full 2ltrs based upon 10 brews/boils a day saved approx £48 per year, in a new build house that equates to as near as dam it 60% of the hot water bill, strangley that equals the ouput of a solar thermal panel. So how about asking Santa for -

at £60 as opposed to several thousand pounds who needs renewable energy?
On the downside your partner could think you have sunk to an all time low...... Why is it us eco warriors outnumber the eco princesses?

Interesting little device that, however, Santa already brought me one of these last year:-

It is great for measuring out the right amount of water for a brew but the spout is rubbish meaning a percentage of the boiled water dribbles onto the worktop.

For the really committed energy efficient tea drinker, try brewing up with one of these on the patio:-

You'll be glad of it when the power cuts start...

I've treated myself to an IR Surface Thermometer. and will be making an audit of all the surfaces in the home, and everywhere else.
