The survey seems to assume that we think GSHPs are a good thing. I think for the vast majority they are not. It would be money and effort better spent to encourage retro fitting of smallish AAHPs or AWHPs, working as hybrids with existing heating systems for coldest periods. The much lower capital cost, installer cock-up risk, upheaval, perceived risk of change to new system - all should encourage a much larger uptake of HPs, and stress the electricity supply less in winter than for 100% HP systems.

GSHPs seem better suited to more continental climates, ie colder winters, or the relatively few special UK situations where Air Source is not suitable.]]>
