We have touched on this every now and again and after reading this article about pellet prices:

I was wondering if people where willing to post up what they currently pay for energy.
Ideally it would be as Â£/kWh, but may be easier to just post up how much you get and the unit price (excluding delivery and taxes).
Would give us all an idea of what is best value for money and we can track seasonal/yearly changes.

Might have to dust down the pellet machine. I mothballed it due to the glut in the market and the low prices. Currently my Â£/kWh is zero as I burn the waste from the quality control.

There's a website called "confused about energy" which tracks domestic fuel prices including wood pellets. They might have some historic data. Not sure how they go about tracking and how often they update.

Didn't I read something last week that suggested the lights would go out within 5 years due to energy shortages across Europe? If so, could be very topical.

Trouble with these 'energy sites' is that they give a general 'average' price.
DECC at least do a regional one. But even that only gives a small part of the picture.

Shame that people are not up for posting prices. Makes me think that there is something up with the market, not as if people think twice about comparing house prices or even how much they pay for transport fuel.

Just had a delivery of pellets. Â£209 per ton plus 5% VAT. = Â£219.45. Assuming 4800 kWh per ton, then I make it 4.6 pence per kWh.

Maybe lack of responses is due to the fact that not many contributors on this forum are actually using wood pellets? Ought to change now that the domestic RHI scheme has finally been launched?

The other snag with sites like that is they can be woefully inaccurate. I don't know about other fuels but I am pretty clued up on logs and the price given for logs on http://www.nottenergy.com/energy_cost_comparison is nonsense if I have done my sums right. A 1m3 of loose dry logs would need to be around Â£60 for their figures to work and the sites that they reference are charging twice that

There was a bit on You and Yours about oil prices and how volatile and regional they are.
I just got my latest 'simplified' bill from EDF and it estimates the units (wrongly) and now does not show the unit price. I wish they would not muck about with things.

I recently received my annual electricity summary from EDF (same area as you) and I have to say that they got the usage correct, the tariff name and price correct and they quoted their cheapest tariff and potential saving based on equivalent consumption. No complaint from me.

Strange how things differ.

On Topic, I haven't put anything up here as I thought it was just about wood pellet prices.

The price today if 52 pence + vat (5%)/litre. I assume the extra 9p /litre is delivery charges?

Interestingly the nottenergy.com suggests that heating oil is one of the cheapest options, after electricity , if you don't have a gas supply.

Maybe I will be keeping the oil boiler after-all and moving it into the new build!

Â£60m3 is about the priced you get it up here in the Highlands and that's delivered. Still, I know it is a different price further south.

Yes there are quite major regional differences. On the other hand some of the highest priced logs I have seen are up in Perth at Â£128 per m3 and I think they are a major supplier.Generally prices go from Â£80-Â£120 m3 for hardwood.

Out of intrest what moisture content do your logs arrive at and is that hard or softwood?

ST we have just had a bill and we are paying 14.39p per kWh for electricity for the last quarter.

I cant remember the decimal places, but I am about 18p for day and 7p for night now.
My average is about 12p/kWh

I have an endless supply of free birchwood which I split and store undercover for at least 2 years though now it is looking at being 3 years plus. The stuff I have seen around here at Â£60m3 is hardwood and they claim is seasoned so under 20% moisture I would presume though I have no direct experience of it myself.

It is not a current document but is up to date for Standard and E7. Shows the variation of electricityrices from EDF across the country.
