Used to do basic GANTT charts in excel and just highlight cells.

Looking for something a bit more advanced but free...

I've downloaded Projectlibre but I just can't get on with it, printouts look poor, can't adjust the headings etc.

Excel is easily formatted but a pain changing dates. I'd like drag and drop etc.

Maybe not what you're after but...

I too struggled with Projectlibre but found this Open Office/Excel template really easy to use, flexible and good looking - most of all I feel like I'm in control of the project at a glance.

    Anyway, for what it's worth:

That looks really good, I'll download it in work tomorrow. Does it do critical paths?
Any updates on free software? Ideally cloud based

I used this a few years back for a one-off big project and it was ok. Free for personal use:

Although I normally use MS Project, I've used Projectlibre at work in the past, with no problems.
Actually just set up Agantty last night, seems really good so far

Most others were freemium's with lots of hidden extras
Currently using Trello to save all job information, details, checklists etc.

Agantty to keep track of jobs in a visual format

Now need some kind of diary system for <10 operatives
