We have bought a house in southern Italy with a view to down -shifting and hope to make it habitable in the most sustainable manner. The house was built about 20 years ago using a concrete pillar style with a reinforced concrete flat tiled roof, It seems to have a single block wall.there is a 10 tonne water tank on the roof serviced by a borehole with an electric pump.
The house is perishing in the winter and has suffered from condensation problems it would seem. The ceilings are 2.85m high we want to insulate them with something.Possibly 100mm thick polyurethane foam stuck on the inside, possibly a false ceiling with rockwool or similar behind but don't have a scooby about what would work best. Any advice out there? We are ignorant but intend to learn fast!

False suspended ceiling with 200 or 300mm of quilted insulation above it and a ventilated gap above the insulation would be my plan. Lower the ceiling to 2.45 m?

    What about the walls?

An alternative would be to insulate over the concrete but under the tiles with sheet insulation.
