    Good day

I’m looking for some 5” ogee cast iron guttering, plenty of suppliers on line , but price variations are considerable. From descriptions and pictures alone its nigh on impossible to judge which is the best option/ quality/price to go for.
Anyone have recomendations or hints as to where to start or good quality supplier.

    Regards

Listed building, council want the existing plastic removed and cast iron instead, i could have argued that it was already there in ‘74 when listed, but instead it was a bargaining chip for other changes i wanted, plus it’ll look better than plastic.

Used gutters online (.co.uk) recently for cast iron 3'' Round 6ft Downpipe Lengths and no complaints.

    no other connection with them.

Would they allow aluminium, very difficult to tell apart from cast and lighter and easier to work with.

Or Lindab rainline. We have used their galvanised on 2 properties and are very pleased with it.
They also do coloured, e.g. black (some Councils put a condition on that says "black painted metal guttering" which this would meet)

Very different shape to cast iron or similar aluminium though.

Thanks again chaps, i’ll take a look at the suggestions, alumium might be an option at high level, but that means dealing with council again and what with the covid restrictions and my much depleted patience / sanity dealing with them to date means i’d rather keep to whats been agreed.
There’s money in the budget to cover it but the wide variation in prices makes me wonder about quality between brands.
I’ll get some proper quotes and see what discounts (if any are to be had) and think again.

I have used St Gobain classic pre-finished and it was pretty good, its been up 10 years and not been touched since.

Yes and I guess it depends very much on what the reasoning is of the Council for requesting it. If it’s about shape then arguably a black plastic copy would meet that quality? Or is it about developing a patina over time? Or is it about the carbon footprint? Reusability? Recyclability?

Or is it because all old buildings had “black painted cast iron” guttering? When all I that I have bought second hand, from different sources, was painted all different colours but never black!
Some of them changed the wording of their condition to “metal” to allow for aluminium.
