We're considering our heating options at the moment, one of which is this wood pellet stove/cooker/boiler on an RHI scheme. 

We need our heating to be quite flexible, partly because some rooms have woodburners, and partly because of the house layout.  There's the main house, and then an attached large single storey barn..  Sometimes only one or the other will need heat from the Klover.  And sometimes for part of the day, if - for example - the woodburner will be used in the evening.  

So our ideal set up would be one that modulates really well, allowing us to heat the whole or just parts of the house as required.  

The barn will likely have UFH, while the rest of the house has radiators.

Any thoughts much appreciated,

(and by that I mean buying in wood pellets rather than burning wood from a local tree (though that is another argument!))
And there are other issues - size of install, general upkeep much greater for a pellet boiler I would have thought.

Presumably domestic hot water has to come from it as well.

Just noticed you have radiators in the main house - are they all installed already? Then having found a company see which boilers they recomend and work from there.

The engineer that fitted mums boiler lives in the same village of the 40 odd he was involved in installing the vast majority have been taken out and oil reinstated. The Triancos (and many other pellet boilers) are most certainly not the light touch user friendly machines they were touted as. Whilst not hard to look after it is time consuming and dirty work looking after it, i had the internal feed housing modified as the feed auger wears out every 9 tonnes of so and changing/cleaning it as per original design involved a lot of dismantling.

Whilst i’m sure there are much better designed boilers available the costs ramp up very quickly. Then add on the space required for pellet storage, the need for regular refilling or a bulk store and feed system. Not sure what the current rhi payments are but we had a pretty good rate that has only really just made it economically viable overall and leaves little for what decisions are made once the rhi payments finish.

Incidentally I endorse Artiglio's comments 100%. It is highly likely that we will be reverting to oil ourselves too once the RHI payments have ceased later in the year. ASHP is a very attractive idea but we will bide our time and see how their development goes over the next 5 years or so as I do not want to be a pioneer again. If HMGov are serious about installing 100's of thousands p.a. for the foreseeable future then I expect to see many more installers with subsequent reductions in the cost of the kit and installation. Currently I don't believe there is an ASHP on the market which will provide sufficient output for our place, apart from the various other technical snags like undersized radiators and microbore/manifold system.]]>
