Hello to all our new friends on the Green Building Forum! As we at the AECB start to manage the forum there will be a period where we are learning the ropes and we hope that you will bear with us if there are a few hiccups. We are very grateful to Keith for all the work he has done over the years with both the Forum and the AECB and look forward to continuing in the same vein. Our first task is to improve the settings and security of the site otherwise we intend to operate with just a "light touch." The vibrancy, connections and personal investment in this forum is clear to see and down to you, the users. We intend to support you in any way we can to continue that. If you are new to the AECB please pop over to visit us at aecb.net and meet the team. We look forward to welcoming you to our family and we're very proud to be invited into yours. Samantha Musty (AECB membership officer)

Hi AECB Admin! You probably already know this, but 'traffic' has decreased quite considerably over a long period, so one of the things would be recruiting 'new blood'. Presumably at least part of this will be done within AECB. Out of interest the AECB's own forum was shut last time I looked. Is there an intention to merge the two, but keeping viewing open to non-members as GBF is at the moment?

    Thanks!

Hello and welcome Samantha and any other AECB people looking

Browsing the AECB website, I found something other denizens here might be interested in, concerning a subject that sometimes leads to heated discussion:

Thanks Samantha - very pleased that the AECB has been taken over from Keith. Seems like a great match!

I'll look forward to your upgrades and hope that, sooner or later, that includes moving to a more recent version of the Vanilla software.

    Thanks :)

Sounds interesting - but off topic!

I read it and also sent it to a friend who was looking at a house to buy, which had been assessed as “damp” requiring thousands of pounds of corrective work.
Although she pointed out that the washing machine supply had obviously been leaking onto the concrete floor for months.

    Hello again everyone,
It's been some time since my last update (for which I apologise) but we have been working with IT advisors to understand the best way to support the Forum.
We have concentrated efforts firstly on the payment gateway and updating the "front door" to the Forum to ensure that new members can continue to join. Security settings have also been strengthened.
We are now turning our attention to the Forum itself and investigating ways to update the technology whilst protecting all historical posts, thereby conserving this valuable resource.
We are aware that there are operational issues with using and posting on this old software but ask you to bear with us whilst we tread carefully to protect and then enhance the Forum.
It would be easy to start with a clean slate and shiny new software but we believe that this Forum is about the people and ideas in it so we are keen to honour that first and foremost.
We'll post development news when we have it but in the meantime thanks for your continued support.
    Samantha Musty (AECB)
