I've just spotted that 'whispers' on this forum are no longer private. If you, like me, have sent any that include information that you don't want broadcast to across the internet, you may want to delete them now.

Not sure if this is an unintended consequence of the move to the AECB, but it seems to have happened within the last 48 hours.

Sorry Mike, but how do you know that? If I look at Whispered Discussions, for example, I only see two discussions that I was involved in. Does that mean that nobody else was involved in one? I'm not concerned about the contents of those discussions being public if they are.

Haven't tried it but I guess if you log out and then load the same webpage, you can see whether your whispered comments still appear?

Nope. If I log out I can't see the discussion. So again, how do you know that?

OK, this may have been a temporary blip, but to add some more detail:

I know because, occasionally, if want to make sure I don't miss a new message, I set up an automated page scan using a browser extension, which alerts me to any updates on the page. Normally I stop the scans after a while, but in this case I forgot to do that, so it's been scanning the page every 16 hours (or the next time thereafter if my machine was switched off) for the past 7 months.

It scanned the page again at 03:16 this morning - I'd left my machine on overnight - and when I checked my PC this morning my 7-month-old whisper was reported as a new change. And, when I checked the page, it was indeed visible; consequently I logged on & deleted the text. And finally turned off the page scan.

Anyway, having just checked again, it is no longer visible, so hopefully it was just an unexplained blip.

Sounds like something I might do :) But all I do is look every day at the All Discussions page, where threads with new messages are highlighted (provided you stay logged in).

People are awfully naive nowadays. When telephones came in they were assumed to be insecure because the operators would listen in.
Ever since as communications have become electronic and more and more complicated everyone has become more and more trusting that everything is secure - this despite almost daily revelations of hacking and information being publicised or stolen.
There's only one safe rule - don't plug anything into a public network. If you want to keep something secret, don't tell anyone.
