    What ho one and all,

Have a bath mixer tap with the facility to press the button for the shower. Personally, I think that is is a clever but poor design, but what do I know?

Every couple of months, the shower either will not work or when the bath is turned on, both bath and shower supply water. The solution is to dismantle the shower button and generally, the culprit is the arrowed O ring which the 3 bar has dislodged.

After 15 years, perhaps I need a new O ring? Not a problem but ...............

When I have checked a couple of site, there are so many different types. Nitron, viton, EDPM, silicone, polymax, and more. My guess is that I need something pretty basic but what? Just plain vanilla rubber or EDPM?

    Really grateful for any suggestions.

    Thanks and toodle pip

New rubber O ring and thoroughly clean all the parts and seatings
  1.
I would go for a silicone O ring if you have a choice, otherwise whatever your local shop has.

I am quite sure that the original is vanilla rubber.

Thanks. What is the benefits of one or the other; rubber or silicone?

To be perfectly honest, don't really care as long as it solves the on-going issue.

Rex asked: "What is the benefits of one or the other; rubber or silicone"

Google says https://www.rubberandseal.com/silicone-vs-rubber/ and https://trp.co.uk/rubber-vs-silicone-o-rings/ and many other links.

I would go for whatever your local shop has in stock at the time of asking. The usage is not particularly arduous and as the original only lasted 15 years what is on the shelf will probably suit.

Have some new O rings now and will wait until the next time the valve needs fixing.
