General: Orcon F alternative

    I am looking for an alternative to pro clima orcon f. I am insulating under a suspended floor as per the ecological building systems installation guide:

    Using orcon f to seal intello plus membrane to rough joists. I don't have enough to finish the job and don't have time to order more so looking for an alternative i can pick up from screwfix. A flexible acrylic sealant seems a not very demanding application. Would any old frame sealant do? Eg:

    A sealant that lasts without any gaps for fifty years or more is not my experience of general sealants. Compromising your job for the sake of a couple of days waiting seems like false economy to me. But it's entirely your choice!

    Not that any sealant's been tested for 50 or even 5yrs - it's entirely extrapolation. Find another method altogether (and thereby save money) is my practice.

    Come to think of it even to rough joists you could use air-tightness tape with the requisite primer, and I definitely have some of that.

    Turn the stud wall inside out - airtight sheathing on the outside, so joists don't penetrate it, no membrane anyway, and WUFI-design the rest of the buildup to not need a VCL. Still need to air-seal the airtight sheahed box to floor, adjoining building etc, and around windows. For that, Compriband-type expanding sealant strip, topped to be double-sure with big wodge of silicone sealant injected in depth into the 3mm gap, so even if it decays it'll probably still block it up. Then, service penetrations, never satisfactory.

    Lots of good ideas. All of which I suspect lack the prospect of "instant gratification" that rsk1 was seeking. All of which also lack the pro clima system warranty if entirely their products are used, if that's worth anything. But as I said, it's his choice.
