I am looking for an alternative to pro clima orcon f. I am insulating under a suspended floor as per the ecological building systems installation guide:

    https://www.ecologicalbuildingsystems.com/post/suspended-timber-floor-insulation-installation-underneath

Using orcon f to seal intello plus membrane to rough joists. I don't have enough to finish the job and don't have time to order more so looking for an alternative i can pick up from screwfix. A flexible acrylic sealant seems a not very demanding application. Would any old frame sealant do? Eg:

A sealant that lasts without any gaps for fifty years or more is not my experience of general sealants. Compromising your job for the sake of a couple of days waiting seems like false economy to me. But it's entirely your choice!

Not that any sealant's been tested for 50 or even 5yrs - it's entirely extrapolation. Find another method altogether (and thereby save money) is my practice.

    Try me.

Come to think of it even to rough joists you could use air-tightness tape with the requisite primer, and I definitely have some of that.

Turn the stud wall inside out - airtight sheathing on the outside, so joists don't penetrate it, no membrane anyway, and WUFI-design the rest of the buildup to not need a VCL. Still need to air-seal the airtight sheahed box to floor, adjoining building etc, and around windows. For that, Compriband-type expanding sealant strip, topped to be double-sure with big wodge of silicone sealant injected in depth into the 3mm gap, so even if it decays it'll probably still block it up. Then, service penetrations, never satisfactory.

Thanks FT, but in this case my too few words said too little! And I probably should have 'whispered'. 'Try me' (to rsk 1) meant 'Try me. I think I may have some Orcon F'! Sorry to sow confusion. NP

Lots of good ideas. All of which I suspect lack the prospect of "instant gratification" that rsk1 was seeking. All of which also lack the pro clima system warranty if entirely their products are used, if that's worth anything. But as I said, it's his choice.

I'm not aware of anything that is a direct replacement for orcon-F, which stays pretty sticky and _very_ flexible for a very long time (decades) once the inital water dries out of it. But can also be removed relatively easily if need be.

It is particularly good for things like membrane to sawn joists. I guess I would try one of the hybrid silane sealants as an alternative. Soudal Fix-all is pretty-good stuff. High tack, good grab, doesn't care about water, remains somewhat flexible, available in toolstation and screwfix. Under £8/tube. I'd try using that instead. There are other silanes just as good. e.g. I quite like OB1 too (available from screwfix in several colours, £8-10/tube).

These are more adhesive than Orcon-F so you might find it will never come off in one piece, depending on what membrane is used.

Hi Tom, as just discussed in whispers, no I can't see wookey's private post to himself. I'm surprised you can! Wookey, you need to make your post public if people are to see it. And the admin needs to sort out this whole automatic-whisper nonsense!

And, for me, on two different computers, the lack of Search and three other functions I can't remember, under the Green Building Forum banner.
