I've tried asking this in the Build Hub forum, but had no luck...

In other parts of the world, you can buy white EPDM to keep the summer temperatures down, but not in Blighty, so I had to use bog-standard black.

I've done everything I can to mitigate the summer heat on our 55m2 dormer flat roof (ventilated deck, woodfibre insulation, careful airtightness detailing), and whilst these have helped over summer, it could be better.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a reflective paint that works well on EPDM and is available in the UK?

Is it really 55m2? huge. If smaller, how about glueing silver foil over it, like it's glued to insulations or plasterboard? Or sticky aluminium tape but in wide width?

I googled paint to go on rubber and got a few suggestions including tyre white wall paint - now that has got to be durable and flexible. Once you have made a likely choice confirm the use with the manufacture.

Otherwise is the roof flat enough to hold a couple of cm of limestone chippings - say 5 - 10 mm size?

google "epdm paint reflective" says https://www.roofingkitsdirect.co.uk/2019/02/epdm-rubber-roofing-chapter-1-the-questions/ "Yes, you can paint an EPDM membrane! If you’re looking to paint an EPDM roof, it’s recommended to use acrylic paint specifically formulated for rubber surfaces. These paints adhere well and provide durable coverage. However, before starting any painting project, it’s always a good idea to consult the manufacturer of the EPDM membrane to ensure compatibility and to avoid any potential issues." Which sounds like good advice to me!

The google search also throws up this thread as well as your one on build hub.

Reminds me of 'upside down' roof - insulation slabs laid on top of the weatherproof membrane, weighed down with gravel or paving slabs - instead of insulating in the joist zone beneath. That used to be all the rage (in 80s/90s I guess) but little heard of nowadays AFAIK?

On the horizon is paint-on solar PV - brilliant white will become the standard colour for all buildings (and vehicles), with every surface busy generating (or will it be matt black?).

One has to be specific with the question if you do not get the answer you want, so asking

What reflective paint that is available in the uk will adhere to EPDM
    you get this answer

    https://iask.ai/q/reflective-paint-EPDM-UK-v4dvdv0

There does not seem to be a definate recommendation but gives a number of potential candidates for further exploration.

As does a general web search

    I disagree.

Ask A1 is the only one I have tried there may be better ones for all I know.

The more you try and specify the more results you get with general search. You get results based on each word you include. Ask Ai does it for you. e.g I recently wanted a sealant adhesive to bond cement based guttering to a liner made of pvc. Ask Ai searches the possible sealants and gives you the most appropriate result. Do that with a standard web search you get a whole load of offerings and you have go through all their data sheets to find something to suit.

Try it Ask Ai next time you search
