I wonder whether the next scandal will be solar installs, There have been a number of poor quality installs reported
    an example here.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AEZgmQvUDc

This video by Artisan Electrics (who I follow and has some very excellent videos on a number of electrical topics)
highlights a solar install he was called in to inspect for poor performance. He found a can of worms blaming it on Solar Together schemes backed by LA's driving down quality (and competence) to get the cost down. Whilst on the job took a look at a EV charger that was not working another can of worms.

I'm not sure that video is particularly accurate in the picture it presents. Early in the video Artisan say there's no DC isolator but when they test the cables they switch off the DC isolator which is integrated in the inverter. Artisan are critical of the EV charger install but the customer says that wasn't installed by the solar installer. The consumer unit feeds the EV charger and a hot tub so unlikely to have been installed by the solar installers. Artisan say the inverter is undersized for the DC output of all the panels but the panels are split equally over opposing compass points so will never generate the power they would if they were all facing the same direction. One of our systems has 8.5kw of panels spread over 3 compass points and PVGIS forecast says the biggest peak we'll get is 5.7kw out of the 8.5kw installed. Apply that principle to the system in the video and there's unlikely to be the claimed mismatch.

That solar install isn't perfect but it doesn't seem to be anywhere near as bad as Artisan intimate??
