Edit to add: IKEA are now doing RGBW bulbs packaged with a remote on/off/dim/tone switch for £12, that's hard for anything that needs fixed wiring to beat, including the kinetic stuff. The switch uses AAA batteries.


Thinking about how many button-presses a TV remote has to transmit each day, versus how many times a light gets switched - that's how the battery powered light switches can last for a very long time on a single battery.


Further edit: Borpin is expert here: I understand that WiFi switch systems have to use power to keep themselves connected to WiFi whereas the new stuff (inc the IKEA) uses the Matter/Thread system and less frequent transmissions to stay connected. The kinetic stuff uses RF 433mhz and only transmits when pushed.
