    What ho one and all,

While cleaning today, I found in the dark recess of a cupboard that is effectively, our plant room (HW cylinder and boiler cupboard) a pile of soft stuff; no idea what it is but vacuumed it. Thought it may have been coming from some insulation around the top of the wall hanging boiler.

Checked again just now, and at the back of the cupboard on the floor, I see ants. They appear to be coming from a very small hole where the Fermacell and screed meet.

I don't like eradicating insects but I also don't want ants nesting in the timber frame / Warmcell. Google tells me how to prevent them coming into the house but what is the best way to eradicate them from where I cannot see?

    Thanks

Dr Google suggested a mixture of bicarb of soda and icing sugar. Will see how that works out. Trying both powered and a paste.

Get some proprietary ant powder sprinkle it around the entrance hole the ants will take it in and kill them off.

Nippon ant powder is a good one.

Sometimes you can be too green when dealing with some pests.

I put some strawberry jam under a cover a little bit away from the house to encourage then not to go inside

Difficult to know if my mixture has worked. Had a few day of flying ants, making their way from the back of the cupboard to the window and for the past week, nothing. No flying ants no foraging ants.

Guess there is no way to know if the nest is still active or dead. Will seal the floor / wall junction to prevent them getting into the house that way again in the future.

Dread to think what the timber behind the Fermacell looks like!!!
