    Any suggestions for something with low embodied carbon, or if there is even some line of certification to look for when searching?

    I would rather avoid a plastic shower tray unless it's 99+% recycled. Steel is very high embodied energy.

    What do all those Carbon Lite home fit? Where do I even start?

    Traditional Tadelakt is probably as Eco as it gets. I've seen it used effectively for hand-crafted walls and floors in a shower cubicle, and 30 odd years ago I stayed at a Spanish castle and bathed in a 200 year old tadelakt bathtub!

    But it needs a lot of manual labour to install:

    If you want something a bit easier, look for used bathrooms stuff. Ignore fashion, get the lovely coloured bathroom stuff from the 50-70's! The quality is so much better than today.

    A few years ago I tried to re-home a really solid cast iron bathtub, just needed enamel spot repairs. We used to shower standing in it with a curtain, but it didn't fit our remaining space after we insulated.

    Couldn't get any takers, so it ended up as a water trough in a field of cows!

    Maybe you could get something like that from a salvage yard?
