regarding the 'scraping issue'. We h've had an influx of 'steptoe and sons' calling round, offering to take scrap. The sparkies have told us that in the past they would have turned up their noses at old fridges, now they are happy to take them away, because the value of scrap is rising. . . . . . I therefore suggest, that you make a nice big, obvious pile of stuff you want to scrap, some where these guys can see it from the road, and let them come to you,. . . .it'll save you the effort of carting it all to the tip yourself.

Assuming, of course, that these "steptoes" are dismantling the fridges properly. If not, would the original disposer have any liabilities, as with building waste?

Couldnt agree more Ludite. we have a litle nest egg in the shape of a car which crashed in our field a few years ago. The owner disappeared and it would have cost money to have it taken away at the time. However we have been offered money for it now, but letting it appreciate a bit while we sort the house out

Ed. I think the people that come calling for scrap take it to be scrapped, and they're the ones who dismantle it. You're selling it to them, so they become the owners. I would assume that makes them liable, not you.

I'm sure I've said this somewhere on this Forum before - in France you have to pay an 'environment tax' on all new appliances depending on the environmental cost of disposing of it at the end of its life. Seems like a good idea to me.
