    Hi Tom,

Where did you get your information regarding the thermal performance of the LECA when compared to the polystyrene? Would expanded glass be any better?

    Thanks

no -- polystyrene and other insulation products are at least an order of magnitude better insulators than either foamed glass or LECA.

This may seem sad but it is why they are commonly used to insulate things.

    See http://www.netweber.co.uk/uploads/tx_weberproductpage/06_500_Leca_insulation_fill_01.pdf

CWatter's link above - v gd - Leca is a wonder material! AFAIK bagged Leca costs only a bit more than sharp aggregate (prob much less when tankered to site like that) - and look at all the things you can do with it!
