Can anyone point me to an off-the-peg supplier of beading suitable for retro-fitting double glazed units into a timber external door? Tried a google search with little success. Needs to be available in small quanities and presumably L-shaped in cross section. It must surely be a better option than replacing a well fitting 80-year old M&T door in excellent condition.

    Thanks

I'm just re-installing dg units into timber frames. Glazier fitted them with putty! I'm using 3mm double-sided foam tape on the inside. On fixed windows, I've deepened the rebates, on openers, I planted on a 6mm thick timber section. But I couldn't buy the chunky beading I wanted, so I've made my own from 100mm x 20mm skirting board. Jewsons stock section like you suggest, so do Focus.

Any decent timber supplier will have 2.4m lengths of 12 x 15mm softwood or hardwood in their beading rack already bevelled to 15 degrees. It's called glazing bead or wedge.

Belated thanks for the advice. I got overtaken by other jobs so haven't done it yet. Planting on the 6mm timber section sounds like it should work for my shallow rebates - will try to remember to let you know how it goes.
