We have had our Gaia Turbine for 7 months now out of which its been broken down at least 10% of the time. If it wasn't for the good service from the installer Nick and his team from Whales it would be a lot more. Blades trip out, birds nesting, multi pull errors, parameters crashing etc. Very, very disapointed in the product. Sat broken down again at the moment!

I've got one as well which has been in for 2 months. Been working fine but did start to give blade overspeed error messages occassionally whilst freewheeling which i had to manually reset - until Nick sorted out (fingers crossed). Like all things with computers attached I'm sure they'll have issues (my old Landrover was much more reliable than the new one with a computer attached - took Landrover ages to find the fault !) . I'm very happy with the performance so far and others I've spoken to seem happy with theirs - that's why I went for a Gaia. Hope you get to the bottom of it but don't think the birds nesting can be a manufacturing fault.
There's a farming forum (forget what it's called) which had a discussion about Gaias, mostly seemed positive but one chap did have programming issues. Computers I hate them.
On a positive note the Gaias lightening protection works, we had a strike that fried my home computer, phones, etc but the Gaia restarted itself after the voltage spike had passed.

Got going again after a few weeks. Turned out a simple solution. No more problems and been generating well since. A few months left till its been in a year and wont be far off its predicted generation figures. Happy again.

So what was the simple solution?

My "rotor over speed" error kept on occurring, only in very light winds and was not due to blades actually over speeding. Not really effected generation just meant I had to reset it all the time so my patience finally ran out. Still don't know whats caused it and don't know if it's been fixed - only time will tell. Gaia just seemed to guess at possible causes and gave a list of tweeks to be done - they have been and we shall see.
    I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Turned out to be a wiring error in the factory. Our white box and all its components were changed. From what I gather when it was tested in the factory to solve a problem someone altered wires around. One tip has gone out again but as we have a 12.5m telehandler I was able to go up myself to sort it. Nick came out on the second or third time to check the braking. It seems brake dust on the discs can be an issue so now once a month we shall stop it manualy to try and clear all. I had to go down the road to help put the tips back on another Gaia turbine end of December as well.
We have just had our best month December 4447kw:bigsmile:

    Bobdbuilder,
Hummm, Sounds like I've got a similar "wiring" issue in the white box - my "rotor overspeed" error still isn't fixed despite the best efforts of Nick. Not really affecting production as long as I reset it each time but it's been doing it for the 7 months its been up.

Gaia say they are taking it seriously and have wired in a modem thing to send data back to the factory but they still don't know why it happens. They keep coming up with things to try but clearly don't know what /why it's doing it and have started to suggest things already tried. Gaia seem reluctant to replace the white box and are keen to find the fault in the field for future reference. Fair enough but you can't rewire the computer standing in the middle of a wet field. I shall be having serious words if they don't have a solution before the end of the month (solution that is and not a guess).

    Oh and it's done 16,120kWh in the 7 months. December= 4207kWh .
