  1.
I am currently undertaking Honours Year of an M/Arch BSc Hons Architecture degree. The topic I have chosen for my dissertation is sustainability, specifically looking at natural sources of insulation.

My research so far has been very difficult as there appears to be very little information available other than that of retailers trying to sell their product.

Are there any journals with particularly good articles on these insulations?

If anyone has any information or advice on where to find information it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ewan Ogilvie

I don't think you will find any data to demonstrate that one product is greener than another.
You will find many individuals and manufacturers who will make unsupported claims.
I think it's like a religious belief. You sign up and try to ignore the lack of evidence.
For example see how few responses there have been to my post about sheep wool insulation.
The truth is that we don't know which products are least harmful to the environment.
I know which are more pleasant to use but that is a different subject.

Ewan, there are a few LCA papers you might find interesting, such as:

A Comparative Life Cycle Assessment of Building Insulation Products made of
Stone Wool, Paper Wool and Flax, Schmidt, Jensen, Clausen, Kamstrup and Postlethwaite
    International Journal of LCA 9 (1) 53 – 66 (2004)

    can be downloaded here:

Manufacturer involvement in producing such reports is inevitable due to the detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes required.

    Good luck.
