    No, not saying E/XPS are the same product, just pointing out that if you need a higher density foam insulation product then if you struggle to source high density EPS then XPS may be a suitable alternative more readily available. I've used lots of both in my build with EPS under floor in great quantity and also above rafters. Where they are they should perform fine. However for my walls where I need a bit of impact resistance and strength I have used XPS. XPS is also a much easier product to work with in wild weather!

    I think from your numbers you are referring to vapour resistivity (MNs/gm)?

    Looking at the numbers from the manufacturers, Jablite Premium EPS 70 comes in 145MNs/gm, Jablite Premium EPS 250 is 238MNs/gm.

    Knauf Polyfoam Eco Extra XPS as you say is 600MNs/gm.

    I think that PU foam lower numbers are likely to be the stuff out of cans and the like as you say foamed in place as it soaks up moisture when the skin is off quite a bit.

    Here's my installation of the spiral anchors into 250 kPA EPS. Had to let them in a little. Seem quite firm, I'll let you know how they hold up.

    Found this in my Parex spec: "It is advisable to ensure the render is not placed directly against project pipes or gas vents ... for gas vents or similar, these should have an appropriate sleeve or receive a stop bead neatly fitted around the vent, leaving an even 5 mm gap."

    What kind of stop bead can you fit around a gas flue pipe?

    Hello all, been a while, I see it's still a concern of fitting items back to EWI since last posting we have with the help of the NICEIC made a product that meets both the EWI system suppliers requirements and those important electrical regs what more details please ask peter White ACIOB email n2e4ewi@gmail.com

    Hello again, someone above asked about insulating around bolier flues, within our range of products some can be viewed on our web site n2e-ewi.co.uk the process behind it is to allow the installation of our stainless steel box to allow a good clean finish of the system and a removal plate for final sealing all with the same patent protected benefits of insulation and weather sealing are pre installed, as with all GAS works a Gas safe installer will be required to extend the flue to a suitable length to ensure regs are meet, as with many of our products this item allows for replacment of flue years down the line in required without affecting the EWI system.     What sealant(s) do recommend for junctions with acrylic render? (window reveals, wall junctions, flue and PVC pipe penetrations)?

    Do we just use any old external silicone from builder's merchant? Are they all much of a muchness? High modulus, low modulus?

    Dear Shevek, you will need to talk to system provider, tell them what you are sealING against, look up Bostik website they will give you details of any chemical reactions, I looked into this and if a basic mastic is used around gav material you will get a reaction back to the system, we use a product from Travis which is Bostik re-branded, when going round windows etc etc look up Andrew Swift on LinkedIn we buy a item from him which replaces Mastic and has no affect, if you can not find him welcome to link with me and I will pass on your details, Find me at peter White ACIOB n2e4ewi@gmail.com

    Shevek, am I aloud to ask which system provider I know a fair few of them might have more luck asking the question. As always happy to help
