General: alternative to screeding?

    Hello all,
    I have recently had a 'first fix' extension with a ground floor area of approx 55 square metres. No screeding has been put down and I was wondering if anyone could add their comments to an alternative idea I have to screeding my floor.
    I want to lay 50mm celotex/kingspan floor insulation between batons spread at 450mm wide intervals. Onto this I wish to nail 18mm solid oak floorboards. The new concrete floor already has an insulation slab and DPM as to current building regs. I'm hoping this idea will eliminate the higher cost of screeding and also improve even further the insulation properties of the rooms. Would appreciate any comments you may have.

    If you lay a wood floor on top of un-dried out concrete you are risking the oak swelling up and mildew and smells forming under it. Concrete will dry out at about 20 to 25 mm per month.

    You could screed it now and wait six months then stick oak down with rubberised gloop. Much easier and quicker than battening and you wont get squeaks either.
