    Hi all

Whats the general opinion on boilers in garages, loft , etc

    Specifically Gas central heating boilers,

Are/can they be that well insulated ,that no heat will be lost until the flow/return, DHW
reaches the insulated space/house , point of use

or is it more sensible to keep them inside the insulated space

    thanks for your thoughts

I know of a number of people with boiler in the loft (1/2 my street & my father in law) - seems fine. The pipework is insulated (you allways lose a tiny bit of heat even with mega insulation) so it should be fine - I think boilers in lofts/ garages is a fairly normal occurance. I guess the imortant thing is allways to try to keep your pipe runs as short as possible.

The unfortunate thing is that the boiler itself is loosing heat, This heat is wasted if it is in an outside space.

This loss can be as much as 10% though a more normal figure would be 2 or 3 % , this makes the pipe heat losses insignificant though freezing could be a problem.

A frost stat should always be fitted or antifreeze put into the system. The frost stat is "designed in" waste in order to stop the boiler freezing -- ungreen?
