    Perhaps the only way to improve quality on large sites (in the real world) is to simplify the building process with modern methods of construction, like SIPs or solid aircrete block walls with external insulation. The big builders don't seem to be capable of contructing an insulated cavity wall properly. I put this down to poor training and a lack of incentive to produce a quality product except in a superficial way, i.e. it has got to look OK to sell it. I take it these houses don't have to be pressure tested for airtightness... if so the results would be a joke. More self build would help and you have an ongoing stake in the performance of the building.

    Unexpected?

    "Also unexpected was the discovery that modern walls built from plasterboard were not airtight. Walls needed to be sealed by a coat of recently developed plaster normally used to prevent sound transmission before the plaster board was fixed in order not to leak air and heat."

    Banging on my drum again, but the diference between a SIPS house and a conventional build is chalk and cheese.
    The reality (feedback from clients not a computer model ) is they require minimum space heating.

    I,m not a SAP assessor but would imagine that the houses in Tonys link would provide a similar SAP result to a SIPs house ?

    The difference being the "u" value we quote in the literature is achived on site

    and if you are not keen on SIPs remove the word sips and insert insulation/airtightness

    but SIPs does provide an almost fool proof way to achive both
